The Flower Inside
A dear friend called me, with an almost disgusted tone, an independent woman. To me that is a compliment, because I strive to be independent. I don't want to be anyone's liability. Sometimes I do take being independent a little far and I forget the flower inside of me. While horseback riding a while ago I saw these beautiful flowers scattered throughout the field. I asked the person I was with why they thought the flowers were closed on what seemed to be a pretty nice day and the response was that the right weather conditions have to be present in order for the flowers petals to open and display their true beauty. Otherwise their beautiful petals will be vunerable to conditions that will not keep them safe and they will become tattered or even die. I think that can also be the case with women in general, strongly independent or not. Women, all have a flower inside of them and the right conditions have to be present in order to see the true beauty of that flower. It is not anything that I think we do on purpose, it happens as natural as those little flowers in the field I was riding through.
So to my strongly independent women...the next time someone calls you independent with that almost disgusted tone, don't stand there and argue. Tell that person this and then kindly whisk yourself off to the next task of life...."When you show me that I can depend on you, then I will be less independent."
In other words, can I have your shoulder every once in a while? Can I borrow your ears while I unload some troubled thoughts without being judged or re-named? Can you be a safe place? Can you be there without acting like the sun on a cloudy day, here one minute and gone the next?
Believe me, there are times when this cape gets really heavy and I really do long for the softer side of me.
Oh, by the way my strong lady.... your Supergirl cape is almost as fabulous as mine....LIVE on!!!!
